Greta: Continuing with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and he is now joined by a very special guest, his wife, Callista, who's from Wisconsin, who's also president of Gingrich Productions. They're here to talk about their new documentary on Pope John Paul II, "Nine Days That Changed the World."
Nice to see you, Callista.
Callista: Nice to see you, Greta. Thanks for having us.
Greta: Before we get on to the DVD, which I have seen an enjoyed immensely, I do have to mention this plane crash because it talks about John Paul II going back to Poland, so -- and you knew -- you knew two people on the plane this weekend?
Newt: Yes.
Callista Yes. We were saddened to learn that two of the people that we interviewed for this movie were on plane with the Polish president. One was Anna Walentynowicz, who was a Solidarity leader with Lech Walesa. She is in our movie and she unfortunately was killed, as well as the president of Poland's chief of staff. So our condolences go out to the Polish people.

Speaker Newt Gingrich made the following statement today about the death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria, Anna Walentynowicz, Władysław Stasiak, and scores of Poland’s national leaders and leading citizens:
Callista and I grieve with the Polish nation today upon learning of the loss of so many dear Polish lives. Throughout history, Poland has struggled on behalf of freedom loving peoples everywhere. In every generation, leaders rise in Poland who are willing to endure hardship and make sacrifices in defense of the dignity of man and for the cause of human liberty. The words "For your freedom and ours” truly define Poland’s contribution to the world.
One year ago in Warsaw we had the privilege to meet Chief of Staff Władysław Stasiak and his wife. Mr. Stasiak, a great Polish patriot, was deeply committed to working for the common good. His professionalism, wisdom, and courage in the service of Poland will serve as an example for all those who serve in government.
We especially remember today the life of Anna Walentynowicz, whose moral courage in the face of tyranny during the Gdansk shipyard strike of August 1980 changed the course of history and helped liberate her country from a communist dictatorship.

National Review April 6, 2010 Newt and Callista Gingrich
Following Pope John Paul II’s death five years ago, the world prayerfully reflected on a life that had transformed the lives of millions of people worldwide.
Today, the world continues to reflect on the life of Pope John Paul II because his teaching and his actions point the way forward to building a future worthy of man.
How best to serve our fellow man? This is the timeless challenge of both political and religious leaders, but it was Pope John Paul II who most resolutely taught the world, religious and non-religious alike, that a future worthy of man must be rooted in recognition of the incomparable dignity of the human person and a commitment on behalf of the human person.

New York Times March 12, 2010 Katharine Q. Seelye
There he was last month in Akron, Ohio, telling an audience of 300 people that President Obama was out of touch. Why? Because the president did not understand the gut-level appeal of the pickup truck at the center of Scott Brown’s winning campaign to wrest a Massachusetts Senate seat away from the Democrats.
“What if I have to haul a moose?” Mr. Gingrich said, to laughter. “You cannot put a gun rack in the back of a Smart car.”
The audience was enraptured, and many called out for Mr. Gingrich to run for president in 2012. He said in an interview that he was considering it and would make a decision by this time next year.

Faith and Family March 11, 2010 Tim Drake
The pivotal moment in the Catholic conversion of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich may have occurred during Pope Benedict XVI’s 2008 Apostolic Visit to the U.S., but the seeds of faith were planted long before, during Gingrich’s childhood.
Born and raised in the Harrisburg, Pa., area, Gingrich was the only boy, and eldest of five children. His mother had divorced and remarried a military man.
Gingrich’s mother and grandmother influenced him spiritually.
“My maternal grandmother was a devout Missouri Synod Lutheran and believed in good and evil,” said Gingrich. “She taught me my most basic lessons about God and Satan.”
